The Unit has two branches with different areas of focus:
- Shareholdings and international culture.
The State's share in four cultural operations ( Bühnen Graz GmbH, Universalmuseum Joanneum GmbH, steirischer herbst festival gmbh and Volkskultur Steiermark GmbH) is also reflected in the arts and culture sector, as we want to reach out to the public/visitors with these activities. The "International Culture" branch, on the other hand, adopts a cross-cutting approach to present Styria as a place for culture to the outside. We do this by organising a wide variety of art and culture programmes (scholarship programmes, awards, EU consulting, Alps-Adriatic Alliance). The office of the Altstadt-Sachverständigenkommission (Historic Town Expert Commission) and Altstadtanwaltschaft (Ombuds Office for the Historic Town) and the office of the Commission for the Protection of Local Heritage are also part of our Unit."
- Investment Management
Investment management is the active, targeted exertion of influence on cultural sector companies in which the State has a stake ( Universalmuseum Joanneum GmbH, Bühnen Graz GmbH, steirischer herbst festival gmbh, Volkskultur Steiermark GmbH). The activities of these companies are reflected in art and culture because they are intended to reach the audience and/or public.
International culture is a cross-cutting matter represented in all areas of art and culture (e.g. international studio programmes, Alps-Adriatic Alliance - Thematischer Koordinationspunkt Kunst und Kultur, consulting in matters of EU funding, Art Steiermark). With their activities in this field, the team represents Styria as a place of art and culture on the international stage.
- National studio programmes (in German) and Styrian awards for cultural and artistic achievements (in German)
Scholarships are granted to support up-and-coming artists in Styria and make it easier for them to gain a foothold in the professional art scene.
The State of Styria awards 17 prizes for outstanding artistic and cultural achievements that are presented every two years.
