Tasks
The Road Infrastructure - Existing Network Unit is in charge of the implementation of all projects on the existing Styrian road network and manages them in close cooperation with the respective district construction offices.
In addition to the area of Road Construction, the unit is also subdivided into the areas of "Cycle Paths, Noise Protection and Accident Blackspots" and "Bridge Construction". It handles all repair, new construction and reconstruction measures on the existing state road network with all its components (carriageways, bridges, retaining walls, noise barriers, galleries, etc.) both in planning and execution. The planning and construction of cycle paths and noise barriers is also handled by this unit. Existing tunnels are managed by the Road Infrastructure - New Construction Unit.
Project development/planning
- Carrying out as-built surveys of the existing road network (Maintenance Management System - EMS) and reporting the required budgetary resources
- Prioritisation of the listed measures
- Development of repair, new construction and reconstruction concepts
- Preparation of comparisons of different options (e.g. life cycle analyses)
- Planning of repairs, new buildings and reconstruction work and also of cycle paths, noise barriers and electrotechnical installations
- Development of traffic concepts (construction phases, traffic routing)
- Preparation of schedules and cost planning
- Preparation of all documents required for project approval
Initiation / handling of procedures
- Initiation of land compensation
- Application for official approval (administrative law)
- Application for approval under road and railway law
- Negotiating and establishing maintenance and financing agreements
Tendering / awarding of planning and construction
- Preparation of tender documents
- Tendering and contract awarding
Execution of construction work / construction supervision
- Project management
- Technical supervision of the construction work
- Schedule and cost control
- Claim management (defending against claims)
- Project completion and handover to the road maintenance service
Noise protection
- Preparation of noise protection guidelines and strategic orientation
- Funding for noise protection windows and noise protection walls along railways and roads
Research and development
- Participation in committees for standardisation and for guidelines and regulations for the road sector (RVS)
- Collaboration in the development of planning, tendering and billing guidelines
- Development of alternative, cost-effective construction and repair technologies
